Microsoft has opened beta testing of their SharedView screen sharing program. Formerly code-named Tahiti, SharedView makes it easy for Windows XP or Vista users to share their screen. You can share your entire desktop, or just specific applications.
To initiate a session, you’ll need a Windows Live account, but other users do not. Up to 15 people can connect to the same session, making SharedView most useful for teams and small group collaboration.
One of the most popular uses, however, will probably remain person-to-person support. When Aunt Edna has a problem with her PC, have her connect to you via SharedView and you can take over. The current beta doesn’t have chat or voice capability, but you can use the Windows Live Messenger, Skype or even the plain old telephone for the voice component.
While SharedView is free to download and use, you will have to put up with some tower-sized banner ads on the right side of the workspace. Still, it works well (on Windows) and for the price, it’s a great solution.

But what are the chances Aunt Edna has a Windows Live account?

Jeff Hester says
Ah, but Aunt Edna doesn’t NEED an Windows Live Account. Only the person who starts the session. Anyone who joins the session does not need an account. Once she’s joined (it’s pretty easy to invite her, over the phone, by IM or email), then she can share any application or her entire desktop.

Ahh… I took it to mean that the person who initiates the session would be the one sharing their screen. I didn’t realize it meant any one of the participants could share.
